Emergency Roof Response: How Long It Takes & When to Expect a Crew
Estimates only. Any dollar figures below are general ranges for the Dallas, GA area, published to help you plan. Every roof is different — pitch, access, decking condition, material choice and current material pricing all move the number. They are not a quote or an offer. For an accurate figure, book a free on-site inspection and we’ll put it in writing.
We get it — after a Georgia storm rolls through Dallas, you’re standing in your backyard looking at a hole in your roof thinking, “I need someone here now.” But how now? How soon can a roofer actually arrive, and what affects the timeline?
iRoofer’s Emergency Response Targets
Response speed depends on crew availability, storm volume, and where you are. Here’s what we typically aim for when a crew is free — these are on-site targets, not guaranteed averages:
| Request Time | Typical first contact / dispatch target | Typical on-site window (when available) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 AM – 10 PM | Often within the hour | About 1–3 hours |
| After hours / Sunday | Not a guaranteed night crew — leave a message or call at open | We return calls at open and prioritize active leaks first thing |
| Peak storm (72 hrs after) | Expect longer queues | Same day to 1–2 days is common |
Times vary with weather, traffic, and how many emergencies are already queued. We’ll give you a realistic ETA when you call.
What Affects Emergency Response Time
We can’t control the weather — but we can control preparation. Here’s what impacts how fast a crew gets to you:
1. Storm Severity and Size
After the March 2022 windstorm that hit 28 counties in Georgia, we received 42 calls in 4 hours. Our closest available crew was dispatched to each address in rotation. The last crew arrived 6 hours after the initial request — and all jobs were secured by 8 PM the same day.
Key insight: The first 2–4 hours after a storm are when response is fastest. After that, crews are committed to earlier calls and wait lists begin.
2. Your Location
We station crews in three hubs: Dallas (covers Paulding County), Douglasville (covers Douglas County), and Hiram (covers northern Paulding). Approximate drive times from Dallas (traffic and weather can add more):
- Within Dallas city limits — roughly 10–20 minutes.
- Hiram, Powder Springs, Austell — roughly 15–30 minutes.
- Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth — roughly 20–35 minutes.
- Outlying areas (Cartersville, Canton) — roughly 45–60 minutes.
3. Roof Accessibility
If the crew can’t park a truck within 100 feet of your roof access, they need a separate lift trailer — which adds 30–60 minutes. Similarly, if your roof requires rigging (over a pool, near power lines), we may need to send our largest crew with specialized equipment (1–2 additional hours).
4. Weather Conditions
We won’t send crews onto a roof during active wind gusts over 40 mph — safety protocols require it. Rain, ice, or fog also delays access. If the weather clears within 24 hours, crews mobilize immediately.
Emergency vs. Urgent vs. Routine: Know the Difference
| Category | Response Time | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| Emergency | 2–24 hours | Active leak, structural damage, missing shingles, tarp needed NOW. |
| Urgent | 24–72 hours | Visible damage but no active leak — needs assessment and repair scheduling. |
| Routine | 3–10 days | Annual inspection, minor repair, or maintenance request. |
What “Emergency” Actually Means
We reserve emergency priority for situations where water is actively entering your home or structural safety is compromised:
- Missing shingles with active water stains on ceiling.
- Large hole in roof deck from storm damage.
- Sagging roof line (structural failure).
- Debris (tree branches) puncturing the roof and threatening to fall further.
If your roof is damaged but not leaking and the weather is clear — that’s urgent, not emergency. We’ll get you a same-day or next-day slot, but we’ll also let you know if it can wait 72 hours without damage.
How to Get Faster Emergency Response
After 200+ emergency calls, we’ve learned what helps and what hurts:
- Call, don’t text — our phone system routes emergencies to the dispatcher immediately. Texts go to a queue.
- Have your address ready — “I’m near the Walmart” doesn’t help GPS.
- Send a photo via text — a quick shot of the damage helps the dispatcher assess urgency.
- Don’t call 3 roofers at once — if you’re a regular customer, we give you priority. If you’re calling 5 companies, you’re at the back of every queue.
- Be honest about urgency — if you say “it’s leaking” but it’s actually just dented, that affects resource allocation.
Our Emergency Crew Setup
We maintain 3 fully stocked emergency response trucks in Dallas, Douglasville, and Hiram. Each carries:
- 18×20 ft synthetic tarps (rated to 100 mph wind).
- Ice & water shield, synthetic underlayment, emergency ridge vent.
- 2×6 framing lumber for tarp edge battens.
- OSHA-certified harnesses and safety gear.
- Drone for damage assessment and photo documentation.
- Generator and LED work lights for after-dark emergency work.
Every truck is pre-staged — no waiting for materials. When an after-hours crew is available, we aim to get someone on the road quickly and often on-site within about an hour in our core Dallas / Hiram / Douglasville area. During busy storm nights, it can take longer — we’ll be upfront about the ETA when you call.
Real Emergency Stories: When Minutes Mattered
July 2026 Derecho — Call at 11:47 PM. Crew on-site at 12:35 AM. Roof tarped by 2:15 AM. Total damage: 12 square feet. Total cost to secure: $390 (credited to the full replacement they booked 3 days later).
After the Emergency: Transition to Repair
Once your roof is secured, we automatically schedule the permanent repair. Our process:
- We email you the damage photos and written assessment within 24 hours.
- If insurance is involved, we coordinate the claim documentation.
- We schedule the repair on your timeline — most jobs start within 2–5 days of tarping.
- If you booked a full replacement, we credit the tarping cost (usually $250–$750) 100%.
Emergency Line: Know Who to Call
Call (470) 236-1410 during shop hours (Mon–Fri 9–7 / Sat 9–5; Sun closed). You’ll talk to a real person — not an automated system — and we’ll prioritize active leaks as fast as crews allow:
- Someone who knows the storm-affected areas by name.
- Same-day help when the schedule and access allow.
- SMS photo sharing for quick assessment.
- A clear ETA — we’ll be upfront if crews are stacked after a storm.
Don’t Wait — Every Hour Costs You
If your roof is compromised, every hour delays makes the damage worse. Water damage escalates, insurance claims get complicated, and prices go up when crews are stretched thin.
